Privacy policy

Nearby SG (“we”, “us”) operates the website at nearby.sg and the Nearby SG mobile application. We respect your privacy and handle personal data in line with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) and good practice for a small editorial directory.

This notice explains what we collect, why, and how you can reach us. It is written for the current product: a public Singapore neighbourhood and amenity directory with sample or editorial listings. It will be updated when features such as accounts, analytics, advertising, or optional location change how we process data.

What we collect today

By default, we do not collect personal data from app or site visitors in order to use the directory.

• There is no user account or sign-in on the current app or site.
• We have not wired analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs that would send identifiers to us for product analytics.
• Browsing public pages does not require your name, email, or phone number.

Like most websites, our hosting or content-delivery providers may process standard server or security logs (for example IP address, user agent, date/time of request) to operate and protect the service. Those logs are used for security, reliability, and abuse prevention — not for selling profiles. If you email us, we will process the content of your message and your email address to reply.

Location

The current app does not request device location permission. If we later offer an optional “near me” feature, we will only access location after you grant permission in the operating system dialog, use it to help sort or filter directory results, and will not put latitude/longitude into public share URLs. You can refuse or revoke permission in system settings; the editorial directory remains usable without location.

Sample and editorial listings (NAP)

Place pages may show name, address, postal code, hours, MRT context, and similar public NAP-style details. Many seed listings are sample or illustrative until verified. Listing a business’s publicly oriented details is not a sale of your personal data. Business owners who need a correction can contact us via support.

What we do not do

• We do not sell personal data.
• We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA / AAID) in the initial app release.
• We do not require Sign in with Apple or any other login for the current scaffold.
• We do not run third-party behavioural advertising in the initial release.

How we use information

Where we process personal data (for example emails you send us, or future optional features you opt into), we use it to provide and improve the directory, respond to support requests, meet legal obligations, and protect the security of the service.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We may share limited data with service providers who host or secure the site/app, authorities when required by law, or parties involved in a business transfer (with notice where appropriate).

Retention

Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and for reasonable records. Hosting/security logs follow provider defaults and operational need, then are deleted or anonymised. Because there are no user accounts, there is no profile database to delete on request today. Uninstalling the app removes local app data held on your device by the OS.

Your choices (PDPA)

Subject to the PDPA and applicable exceptions, you may ask us about access to or correction of personal data we hold about you, or withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. Contact hello@nearby.sg or /support. We may need to verify your request. You can also refuse optional location (when offered), stop using the site, or uninstall the app.

Children

The service is a general audience local directory (expected store rating 4+ / Everyone). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children for accounts, because accounts are not offered. Parents or guardians who believe a child has sent us personal data by email may contact us for deletion of that correspondence where appropriate.

International transfers

Our hosting or email providers may process data in jurisdictions outside Singapore. Where we engage such providers, we take steps consistent with the PDPA to protect personal data.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Material changes may also be noted on the site or in an app release.
